Day 19 | Esther

Scripture: Esther 4

God is at work in everything. Sometimes things don’t seem to make any sense to us at all, but later we understand why God put us in a certain place at a certain time.

Esther was a beautiful young woman. God used her beauty to put her in place as the queen. Then Esther showed greater beauty by her willingness to put her own life at risk to try to save the Jewish people from death.

Esther’s uncle told her of the danger to her and to her people, and he helped her to plan how to save their people. At first she didn’t think she could help, but her uncle reminded her that everyone is important. God put Esther in the palace for a special job. God used her to rescue His people.

Talk About:
• Does God have a special job for you?
• How can you trust Him to lead you?

Prayer: All-knowing God, open our eyes to the special plans You have for us.

Age-Focused Discussion

Preschool
• Who became queen in today’s story?
• Who was Mordecai?
• How did Esther help save her people?

Elementary
• Why do you think Esther was scared to go to the king without being called?
• What made Esther decide to be brave anyway?
• How can we show bravery and courage like Esther in our everyday lives?

Middle and High School
• How was Ester’s behavior different from Haman’s?
• What does this story teach us about pride and humility?
• What are some ways we can stand up for others who are being treated unfairly?
• What do you think it means to be in the right place “for such a time as this”?

Gospel Conversation
Esther was brave and went to the king to save her people, even though she could have died. That’s a picture of what Jesus did for us. The difference is, Jesus did die. He gave up His life to save us. He then rose from the grave, defeating sin and death forever.
