Ministry Spotlight: Good Samaritan Ministries

fbmmissions allows people from different cultures to learn from one another, interact and develop mutual respect and understanding for one another.

JoAnn is very excited about the Housing Initiative that began in 2019, after conversations with older men in the area revealed that they had nowhere safe and stable to live. With a broken heart, JoAnn sought the Lord for guidance. Out of this came the Container Home Village, where small shipping containers were modified homes for individuals. During the 2022 VBS, families from First Baptist Maryville donated enough money for GSM to fund a container home, and the Build-Up Ministry turned the container into a home. We spoke with Curlee, the resident of our VBS container home, and he expressed immense gratitude for the safety and comfort the home has afforded him.

There is a great need for servant hearts at Good Samaritan Ministries. JoAnn is asking you to prayerfully consider being the hands and feet of Jesus in this ministry.

JoAnn Axe has worked as the Executive Director of Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM) in Washington Park for 14 years, and has dedicated her life to serving the community.

Over the last three years, a food ministry has developed where two teams provide a hot meal to 120 people each day, delivered to their homes. This not only addresses their physical needs but also offers opportunities for spiritual ministry. An after-school program helps kids with their homework while providing a hot meal and any school supplies that are needed. They are currently sponsoring twelve children in a local Christian school, ensuring that these students can encounter Jesus on a daily basis.
