Day 3 | The Fall

Scripture: Genesis 3:1-24

Yesterday we read about the perfect world that God created, including perfect people. Today, we read in the Bible about Adam and Eve, and how they disobeyed God.

God had given them everything, and had only asked that they not eat the fruit of one special tree. But Adam and Eve did eat the fruit. Eating the fruit did not make them wise, it brought sin and confusion into the world.

Talk About:
• What is it called when we are disobedient to God?
• Why did God have to punish Adam and Eve?

Prayer: Mighty God, help us to see when we mistrust You and how to trust You to avoid sin in our lives.

Additional Scriptures:
Romans 5:12,15,19
1 Corinthians 15:22

Age-Focused Discussion

Preschool
• Who did God put in the Garden of Eden?
• What rule did God give Adam and Eve in the garden?
• What happened when Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the tree?

Elementary
• What is sin? (Anything we think, say, or do that goes against God’s rules)
• What was the consequence for Adam and Eve’s sin?
• How did Adam and Eve’s sin change the world?

Middle and High School
• When have you experienced temptation similar to Eve’s—wanting something that seems good but goes against God’s will?
• What helps you resist temptation or recognize when something is pulling you away from God?

Gospel Conversation
The Bible is very clear that all of us have sinned, and the consequences for our sin are ultimately death and separation from God. But God also made us a promise that started with Adam and Eve, that one day, sin would be defeated. Because of Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection, sin has been defeated. Through our belief in Jesus, we can have forgiveness of sin and the promise of eternal life. And one day, this world, broken by sin, will be restored.
