July | Loyalty
A commitment to an ongoing relationship.
We are to have loyalty to friends, family, and those in authority.
God is loyal to His people and faithful to His promises, and there is an expectation and command to be loyal to God and His commands.
Valuable Verses
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24
“But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” Ruth 1:16-17
“As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord's word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him.” Psalm 18:30 (25 in 25 Verse)
A Word of Encouragement
Back in the late 1700s, two young men named William Wilberforce and William Pitt were best friends in England. They were both smart, passionate, and full of big dreams. Pitt became the youngest Prime Minister in British history, and Wilberforce became a Member of Parliament. But when Wilberforce became a Christian, everything changed. He felt God calling him to fight against something that was normal in their society—slavery. Most people told him to drop it. It was too big, too dangerous, and too unpopular. But not William Pitt. He stayed loyal. He encouraged Wilberforce. He supported his work. He used his position to help Wilberforce have a voice. It took over 20 years—but Wilberforce eventually saw the slave trade abolished in England. That kind of loyalty—standing by someone for the long haul, especially when the world pushes back—is rare. And it matters. In a world that often tells us to look out for ourselves first, loyalty grounds us. It reminds us of what’s most important: our faith, our people, and our commitments. As a family, loyalty starts with us—the parents. When kids see us keep our promises, speak kindly about people when they aren’t around, and show up even when it’s hard, they learn what loyalty looks like. If we want our kids to be loyal in their relationships, it must be modeled in the home. One way to measure loyalty is through dependability. Are you someone others can count on? Do you show up when you say you will? That’s not always easy—but it’s how trust is built and how love grows. Loyalty isn’t just about people. It’s about our loyalty to God. When we stay faithful to Him—even when it’s not easy or popular—we reflect the same kind of love He has for us.

Take a moment to discuss these questions as a family:
• What do you think made William Pitt stay loyal to his friend, even when it was hard?
• What does loyalty look like in your friendships? In our family?
• Why is dependability such an important part of loyalty?
• How can we show loyalty to God this week?
Gospel Connection
No matter what we do, our loyalty will never be perfect. However, we see perfect loyalty in the example of Jesus, who was loyal to the will of God to the point of death. Jesus' perfect loyalty in His life, death, and resurrection, stands as our greatest hope and our salvation.
