A Word of Encouragement
Every day, we make choices that shape our lives, and those choices impact not only us, but the lives of those around us. God has given us everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
However, it’s impossible to try to please God without taking the time to develop a relationship with Him. As we grow to know God more, and as we look at Jesus Christ as our perfect example, our focus and desires become less on what we want, and more on what God wants and doing things for His glory. Choosing to pursue godliness requires discipline, self-control, and sacrifice. Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 4:7b-8 to “train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” So although physical fitness is a good thing, because we’re taking care of the body God gave us, godliness is even more important because our spiritual growth impacts eternity. Micah 6:8 gives a simple explanation of how to live a godly life: Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. Ask God to give you the desire to pursue godliness.

Take a moment to discuss these questions as a family:
• How do I display godliness in my daily life?
• What things do I need to “stop” or “put off” in my pursuit of godliness?
• What things do I need to “start” or “put on” in my pursuit of godliness?
• How do the choices I make each day affect those in my family and others around me?
Gospel Connection
Jesus is our perfect example of godliness. On earth, He was completely obedient to His Father, ultimately laying down His life for us when we didn’t deserve it. Because of what Jesus has done for us, our goal should be to live a godly life, becoming more like Him.
