This weekend, we celebrated Pastor Tom's 10th anniversary as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Maryville. While we are continuously thankful for the impact he and Rhonda have made on our church family, this weekend we wanted to exemplify our gratitude. For ten years of remarkable teaching, for ten years of investing in each of us personally, for ten years of leading by example, and for ten years of serving us in ways we might never even recognize - we are overwhelmed with thankfulness. We presented Pastor Tom a gift full of many things he loves, including a FBM golf club cover, MCS sneakers, a gift card for Big Cedar Lodge, and lots of letters of appreciation from our church family! As an extra special gift, his children and grandchildren were able to join our services, speaking to the impact he has had on all of them, as well as the amazing ministry they have witnessed throughout their lives. Pastor Tom, we love you, we are thankful for you, and we are so glad to have you leading us closer to Christ.

Most people like to be in charge. Or at least the freedom to be in charge of their own life. With this freedom, we hold on to our own preferences and opinions as the highest truths. So with all this freedom we enjoy, why is there so much dysfunction and disunity? As hard as it is to hear, when we all do what is right in our own eyes it opens the door to doing what is wrong in God’s eyes. The Bible shows us that the most freedom we can find is under God’s authority and protection. This weekend we will see this clearly as we study the book of Judges with Pastor Nate.

Week 4

How do you know when you can trust someone? If you have been betrayed, lied to or disappointed that someone did not live up to your expectations, you probably have built up some walls around you. This weekend we continue our series called, TRUST. We will take a close look at the doubts that all of us have and discover how we can know when we can trust someone. This sure is a lot to cover in one setting, but we will do it this weekend. See at church.

How do you handle conflict? Do you avoid it? Do you bury it? Do you drop hints or do you speak up and let your opinions be known regardless of feelings? This weekend we find our favorite character Abram facing some relational challenges that he has to confront. How do you think he will do on this part of the Trust Journey? This weekend we conclude our Big Reveal series by looking at the opening words from the Gospel of John. Over the past few weeks we have seen how God reveals Himself through Creation and the Scriptures. This weekend we will look at how God reveals Himself through the perfection of His Son. When Jesus enters the world in a humble manger it dramatically shifts how God has revealed Himself. Let’s talk about that this weekend.

Last weekend we learned that worship is not automatic, so God reveals Himself through His Creation everyday so we can appreciate who He is and what He does. This weekend, we look at a song written by David, the shepherd turned King. A man whom God loved and used to pen some of the most beautiful words of worship ever written. David was deeply impacted by how God revealed Himself. We will also hear from the apostle Paul and his perspective of how God reveals Himself through His Word. Can't wait to see you this weekend.

This weekend we begin our Christmas series called The Big Reveal. In this series, we will talk about how God speaks and reveals Himself to man. We will explore three ways in which God has chosen to reveal Himself. In our first worship time together, we will focus on how God reveals Himself through Creation. Would your life be better if you were surrounded by thankful people? This weekend is Thanksgiving Weekend. Even though Thanksgiving Day has passed, the attitude of thankfulness needs to endure. Traditionally, this weekend ushers in the beginning of the Christmas season, although for the past several years, our society starts Christmas promotion on November 1 and skips emphasizing Thanksgiving. This weekend we will pause, take a breath before our Christmas series, and remember the power of Thanksgiving. See you this weekend.

This weekend, we continue and conclude our series on The Return. Last weekend, we introduced the state of the world preceding the return of Christ. This weekend, we will look at the sequence of events and how Jesus wants us to prepare for His return to earth. We will also be proclaiming the Lord’s redemptive work in our lives until He comes, through the observance of the Lord’s Supper. Looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

The End Times! Are we there? Some would say, yes. Others would be indifferent and still others would say, “how can things get any worse?” What would you say? This weekend we begin a new series called The Return. With all that is happening in the world today it is time for us to revisit the prophecies and gain some understanding of what is going on, why it’s going on and what is to come. Well, it is election week. Emotions and drama tend to accompany elections. People’s feelings get on roller coasters and unfortunately for some the ride is a hard one. This has been true especially in the recent history of our nation. So as a believer, how to you approach this week? I’m not talking about your vote, or your values, I am speaking from a perspective of your relationship with God. Let’s talk about that this weekend. See you at church.

Over the last three weeks we have looked at the different roles and tactics our adversary uses to trip us up in our Christian walk. We have seen him as the deceiver, the destroyer and the accuser. This weekend we will focus on us, and how we need to prepare ourselves for battle. You won’t want to miss the time of preparation. See you this weekend.

Have you ever been accused of something? It probably led to a disruption of your peace and sleepless nights. One of the things Satan is known for is making accusations against us. He accuses us of our past sins, when Jesus accepts us and provides forgiveness. What has Satan been accusing you of this week? Come to church, where we celebrate forgiveness and freedom in Christ. Last weekend we started our series on The Evil One, by recognizing Satan as the Deceiver. This weekend we will discover how Satan destroys.

This weekend we begin a new series called, The Evil One. For the next four weekends, we will take a close look at the strategies of our adversary and how he wants to defeat us.

Over the next few weeks we will pray that God will protect us and prepare us to be sensitive to the strategies of the evil one. You see, the evil one strategizes against us, therefore, we must have a strategy as well. So, prepare yourself for battle.
