A Word of Encouragement
Each day, we are faced with situations that test our integrity. Times when telling only part of the truth seems easier than being completely honest, or when keeping our word means sacrificing something more enjoyable. We’re tempted to gossip, or do something because everyone else is doing it. When we know doing the right thing will be hard or bring consequences. Even as Christians, those choices can be difficult. To be a person of integrity means being someone who is honest, trustworthy, and dependable, whether others are watching or not. Our actions reflect our character and beliefs. When our ultimate goal is to please and honor God, our choices will align with His will. It requires humility – asking for forgiveness and striving to do better. Integrity shapes our future and impacts those around us. Pray and ask the Lord for wisdom and courage to live a life of integrity, making good choices each day, choices that will help others see Jesus in your life.
Get the Conversation Going
Take a moment to discuss these questions as a family:
• Give an example of a time when you had to decide whether to be honest about a situation or dishonest? How did you handle it? Did you learn anything from it?
• Is it easier or harder to decide to do the right thing when you think no one will ever find out about it? Why do you think that is? Does God know even if others don’t? (see Proverbs 5:21)
• How does it make others feel when I’m not trustworthy – when I don’t keep my word (do what I say I’ll do)?
• How did Jesus display integrity? What are some ways you can demonstrate integrity like Jesus?
